Law and justice, they’re here to protect us… or are they? In all actuality, it is a great big “No.”
We see the practices of law and justice everywhere, whether it comes to the obvious facts of not hurting others or the smaller terms of service you agree on when you sign up at websites. Yet, while governments, justice departments, lawyers, police, and all those others who use laws say they are there to protect us, they instead are there to restrict us. It is quite simple, which is easily shown by looking at the following facts:
The reason governments exist is because of the so-called need for laws, and well, we need someone to create them. Yet, ask anyone on the streets what the laws are of a country, and they probably can name you one, two, maybe even three, but most certainly not all of them. Even when we ask the police, they will need to check their law books a huge amount of times, and yes, even judges and lawyers need to do so. Dare to ask yourself: How could we follow laws that we don’t even know? Still, it ain’t weird that most people don’t know them, as in actuality there are hundreds of laws, summed up under a smaller amount of “main laws.”
Just take a moment to check terms of services, for example; we encounter about one a day, which shouldn’t have been a problem if they were small, understandable, and clear. However, they are not. They use terms that the majority of people don’t even understand, use small print to hide certain facts, and even more importantly, they tend to be at least 30 pages long. To take an example, let’s consider the terms of service of Twitter. They use 30 pages, a total of 67,092 characters, 10,854 words. It would take an hour to just read them, add time to that to fully understand them, to think about them, and possibly even check them over, and far and far more time to even remember them. In layman’s terms, you would be an idiot to actually ever fully read them, even though if you want to comply with them, you would need to read them.
And at this moment, we are just looking at terms of service agreements, let alone when we look at laws. Let’s actually take a moment to do so. For one of the translations I did on my blog, I would have needed to read the copyright laws of Albania. Now, law No. 35/2016 of Albania is about copyright and related rights. It is 98 pages, 259,280 characters, yes, a quarter million characters, 41,258 words, about 4 hours to read. The ability to understand, I wouldn’t even want to explain. You are probably busy for a week or more to understand if you have an average IQ, let alone if you are below that. And that would be just one law, of the 300+ laws that Albania has… 300 weeks, that would be 2,100 days, 70 months, about 6 years. Six years to learn the laws of a country, and that would be if you would focus on them continuously, basically, so simple and easy, you would never be able to learn them in a lifetime. That is the actual reality.
We went beyond the point of what is normal and crazy a long, long, long, long time ago. In all honesty, the laws should basically exist of those general understandings, like do not steal, do not hurt, do not kill, etcetera. Yet, we have become restrictive, needing a law for every single little thing we could think of. The simple fact is that nobody should be forced to know all laws because currently, it is just impossible. How does this ever create safety? Dare to ask yourself that… please… As in the end, this not only breaks apart society but also causes more and more unlawful things to happen, as basically, everything is unlawful in some way, as we have written down basically everything possible by now.
