If you like your Russian news, it is unlikely to not have noticed the broadcast saying that over 80% of Russian youth support Putin’s policies…
The percentage is, however, kind of funny, as it is “over 80%” according to the news article, which sounds very high, which it actually is, and that is not without any reason…
The report started out at TASS, which is, like RT and Sputnik, a Russian-government owned news-agency, so propaganda ain’t that surprising.
Still, TASS is among my list of actually “mostly trusted” agencies, as most of their releases are factual, even though often (too) short.
So, it ain’t surprising that the source is external, as the source according to TASS is the Center for Students’ Sociology, of which the director is Irina Volodchenko, who is… a member of the Young Guard of United Russia, the youth wing of United Russia, or simply put, young supporters of Putin…
Research without bias needs independence, and with a director being part of the youth wing of United Russia, it is not likely for the Center for Students’ Sociology to ever give independent results on anything related to United Russia, and therefore neither Putin…
The percentage is, however, kind of funny part at this all, as it is “over 80%” according to the news article of TASS, which is notable when we think that about the statistics of Russia, which say 80% to 81% of Russia are Russians, and between 19% and 20% are of other origins…
The same percentage of Russians at Russia being supportive to Russian president’s policies.. let’s just say that it is a bit convenient…
And, actually, there are enough other ways to ridicule these results, as let’s start with the support at the 2012 Russian presidential elections towards Putin being only about 63%, which is, of course, based on the votes of adults, but with the added information that it is very well-known around the world, even at Russia, that Putin’s, and United Russia’s, biggest enemy being youth, it is extremely unlikely for the support of youth towards Putin’s policies being higher than it is at adults…
As someone who likes fact-checking, and has lived at Russia for a long time, it doesn’t take a lot of time to recognize the nonsense of the release of TASS, but explaining it is harder, the exact parts where Putin and his lackeys gain their advantage.
But it might actually be far simpler than many suppose to state that the information TASS received is a lie, which is that when it comes to the youth political movements at Russia that stand against Putin and United Russia, we go beyond even 35% of the Russian youth who are part of these movements, according to real independent sources, which doesn’t only crush the likelihood of the 80% being true, but also the 77% who proclaimed to have “a soft spot” or even “admiration” for Putin, as otherwise we should have some really twisted minds at Russia, who both stand against Putin, while liking him…
Yes, we know those stories about double agents that are said to be at the USA from Russia, but while that is already a twisted idea, this goes even far and far beyond that…
I could move on with explanations that tell about Navalny, as just an example, but why should I even?
In all honesty, I don’t even know who is able to believe this nonsense spread by TASS, as this is so easily opposed that it feels like TASS thought they needed to publish an April’s Fools article, instead of a real article…
The only question I have, is whether the one who published the article of TASS took even a moment to think, let alone to fact-check the information shared by the Center for Students’ Sociology.
Well, at least it has thought me a bit about Center for Students’ Sociology and Irina Volodchenko, and how ridiculously silly they are…
