Spectrum of wonder: Embracing autism’s beauty Katarzyna Dovganyuk-Krym, April 13, 2023 I dedicate this poem to my brothers who are on the autism spectrum, as they exemplify resilience in the face of difficulties. Despite encountering their own unique struggles, they demonstrate that it is possible to persevere and thrive. Their individuality and strength inspire me, and I am honored to be their sister and share in their life journeys. “Spectrum of wonder: Embracing autism’s beauty” In a world that’s bright and loud,There’s a child who stands out from the crowd. With senses heightened, keen and true,Autism’s lens gives a different view. Eyes that see the smallest details,Ears that hear beyond the trails,Hands that fidget with a special grace,A mind that races in a unique space. Communication may not come the same,But there’s beauty in their unique frame.Their thoughts and words, so pure and bright,Can spark a world with their inner light. They may struggle with social cues,But their hearts are full of endless hues. They may need routines to feel at ease,But their minds hold treasures, if you please. Their passions shine like stars at night,Igniting sparks of pure delight. From art to science, music to math,Their minds are like a well-trodden path. They see the world with a different eye,With patterns, colors, and shapes that fly.Their minds are filled with endless dreams,As they navigate life’s winding streams. Autism’s gift, so unique and rare,A puzzle piece in the world’s affair.A different perspective, a new insight,A kaleidoscope of colors so bright. So let’s embrace with open hearts,Autism’s presence, its many parts.Let’s celebrate the beauty within,And honor the magic that they bring. For in their world, so rich and true,There’s a wonder that can inspire anew.Autism’s tapestry, a work of art,A symphony that plays straight from the heart.
