The Calmth of the Snow

Translation: Letzte Instanz – Unsere Augen

Translation: Letzte Instanz – Unsere Augen

Foreword

The last translation of this year. I saved a beautiful song for this moment. I don’t really know what I can say beyond that…

Well, let’s just use the blank space to say thank you to the collaboration known as ICE, especially to GEMA in specific, for being the main source of the licenses which have made my translations possible. The people of copyright collective GEMA showed a lot of patience with me in 2016 while asking questions regarding their previous problems with YouTube. And throughout 2018, GEMA, through ICE partner Buma/Stemra, has been the reason why I could share these translations of songs of German artists to begin with. I know people of GEMA read my blog, that’s the primary reason we have friendly communications these days. So, thank you, GEMA.

English translation

How broad was the old way?
It was long, so impassable long.
Like the deep creek. I could not stand.
I was trapped being a child.
I wanted to be big, to go away from there, and tower over everything.
So, I ran from this place, until today, without asking questions.

When I look into your eyes, I see myself, I see deep inside of myself.
When I look in your eyes, I see myself as a young child.
When I look through your eyes, I see the world in harmony.
The questions of children, the happiness of children…
Oh, if only time would have stood still.

Your eyes are looking at me, exactly how I once looked too.
And yet at some moment, I obstructed the gate to my childhood.
Now I see you, you’re running too.
My child, stand still for a moment.
You will not hear, you do not listen, until time passes by.

When I look into your eyes, I see myself, I see deep inside of myself.
When I look in your eyes, I see myself as a young child.
When I look through your eyes, I see the world in harmony.
The questions of children, the happiness of children…
Oh, if only time would have stood still.
If time only would have stood still…

And when we are no longer, will you look in children’s eyes?
You will be sad, you will hug your child, and yet the years will go on.

When I look into your eyes, I see myself, I see deep inside of myself.
When I look in your eyes, I see myself as a young child.
When I look through your eyes, I see the world in harmony.
The questions of children, the happiness of children…
Oh, if only time would have stood still.

Original lyrics

Ohne Fragen

Wenn ich in deine Augen seh
Dann seh ich mich tief in mir drin
Wenn ich in deine Augen seh
Dann seh ich mich als kleines Kind
Wenn ich durch deine Augen blick
Seh ich die Welt im Einklang liegen
Kinder fragen, Kinder Glück
Ach wär die Zeit doch stehen geblieben

Deine Augen schauen mich an
Genauso hab ich auch geschaut
Und hab doch einfach irgendwann
Das Tor zur Kindheit zugebaut
Nun seh ich dich du rennst ja auch
Mein Kind bleib doch mal stehen

Wirst du in Kinder Augen sehen
wirst traurig sein, dein Kind umarmen
Und doch werden die Jahre weiter gehen

Wenn ich in deine Augen seh
Dann seh ich mich tief in mir drin
Wenn ich in deine Augen seh
Dann seh ich mich als kleines Kind
Wenn ich durch deine Augen blick
Seh ich die Welt im Einklang liegen
Kinder fragen, Kinder Glück
Ach wär die Zeit doch stehen geblieben
Wär sie nur steh’n geblieben
